Nestlé Burkina Faso reflects with the media to improve the nutritional status of the Burkinabe population

On Thursday, 27th August, Nestlé Burkina Faso organized a workshop for twenty local and international journalists to reflect together on ways to improve the nutrition, health and wellbeing of people in Burkina Faso.

Participants had the opportunity to listen to interventions by Nestlé and experts, including healthcare professionals and communication experts.

During this workshop, the problem of micronutrient deficiencies and their impact on the health of the Burkinabe population were discussed. The media reflected on the contribution they can make to solve the nutritional challenges facing the country, including the positive role they play in educating people on nutrition.

This initiative also gave journalists an overview of Nestlé's Creating Shared Value activities in Burkina Faso and in the Central and West Africa region, including its commitment to improving nutrition and rural development.

The concept of Creating Shared Value is based on our firm belief that for a company to prosper over the long term and create value for its shareholders, it must create value for society at the same time.

Giacomo Chiocca, Country Manager of the Savanna cluster (Burkina, Mali, Niger, Togo and Benin) said: "This event, the first of its kind initiated by Nestlé Burkina, was met with great interest from the participants, which has been very encouraging. We aim to contribute to improving people's health by working together with governments, universities, NGOs and the media," he added.

Nestlé Burkina Faso is the fourth company in the region to hold a media workshop for its local and international journalists in 2014.
