In 2020, Nestlé Côte d'Ivoire recorded zero waste to landfill on its sites and collected 587 tons of plastic waste from communities to be recycled. These figures were achieved through the plastic waste sorting and collection project initiated by Nestlé. About 50 decent jobs in five communes in the district of Abidjan were also created.

These actions are in line with Nestlé’s vision to reduce virgin plastics by 33% and have 100% of its packaging be recyclable or reusable by 2025. Nestlé is determined to keep up this momentum to improve plastic waste management.

The company is supported by the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Sanitation. It also has the support of other private companies as co-founder of the Ivorian Association for the Recovery of Plastic Waste (AIVdP).

At the official opening ceremony, Managing Director for Nestlé Côte d'Ivoire, Thomas Caso said, “The Regional Youth Fair on the Management and Recycling of plastic waste is a beautiful platform for meeting all stakeholders. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness among young people who are the future.”
