Nestlé Cameroon shares its quality assurance expertise

Back to Press releases

Foodborne illnesses are a major cause of morbidity. Millions of people around the world become ill and a great number of them die each year after having eaten contaminated food. Deeply concerned by this public health problem, Nestlé Cameroon has decided to share its quality assurance expertise to strengthen the ability of testing labs that deal with sanitary or phytosanitary issues. The company and the Cameroon Interprofessional Council of Sanitation Companies (CISAC) signed a collaboration agreement for this purpose on Thursday, June 29.

This collaboration will enable technical lab personnel, under the coordination of CISAC, to be trained in best practices recommended by international standards, such as ISO and the Codex Alimentarius. This training, which will take place in one of Nestlé’s Quality Assurance laboratories, will run for four weeks and will focus on subjects such as analysis and sampling methods, calculation of eligibility limits or even calculation and inspection methods.

“Inspired by our company’s purpose, which is enhancing the quality of life and contributing to a healthier future, Nestlé is already working – through its worldwide network of 24 quality assurance laboratories – to make healthy, delicious and nutritious products available to individuals and families,” said Thomas Caso, General Director of Nestlé Cameroon. “Today, we are going even further by committing to sharing our expertise in food safety to strengthen the abilities of technical laboratories of phytosanitary companies registered with CISAC, with the goal of developing the national food safety system and thus reducing the amount of foodborne illnesses, and in support of healthier and happier lives,” he added.

This collaboration should also help partner laboratories in their quest to obtain international ISO 17025 accreditation which will enable them to guarantee the dependability of their laboratory analysis results. This will allow Cameroon businesses to more easily export their products and thus find new outlets.

“This agreement marks a decisive step towards support for the accreditation of results and the certification of analytical methods in order to enable Cameroon to market healthy products. We will make good use of Nestlé's expertise in order to meet international standards” said Mr Ndjib Bahoya, the CISAC President.

This initiative is participating in Nestlé’s goal to enable everyone to live a safer and happier life, by sharing our expertise in the area of quality management. Nestlé’s goal is to benefit several African countries with this global initiative. Cameroon will be the second country on the continent, after Kenya, to see the initiative implemented.
