Ogun State, Nigeria – March 17, 2020: The grand finale of the Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) Nutrition Quiz Competition was recently held at the NUD School, Obafemi/Owode, Ogun state. 

Four out of the 20 schools that participated in the first stage made it to the finals. The participating schools were quizzed on topics curated by the Nutrition Society of Nigeria from the N4HK students manual covering nutrition, healthy hydration, hygiene and physical activities. 

Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) is the company’s flagship initiative which aims to help 50 million children globally, lead healthier lives by 2030. In Nigeria, N4HK incorporates a school-based nutrition education program, which equips children to them make better nutrition decisions from an early age to promote a healthier future. The Nutrition Quiz is a core part of the N4HK program to enhance recall and retention of lessons learnt by the students. 

At the end of the competition, Wesley School 1, Sagamu in Ogun State emerged winner of the nutrition competition organized by Nestlé Nigeria PLC in collaboration with the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Ogun State chapter of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria. 

The school emerged champion from the list of 20 schools that contested in the first stage of the competition. Wesley School was closely followed by Methodist School, Abeokuta, which came second while NUD School, Obafemi/Owode clinched the third position. 

In her remark at the grand finale of the competition, the Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager for Nestlé Nigeria, Mrs. Victoria Uwadoka said that the well being of the society is the well being of the Company; describing the Nestlé for Healthier Kids as the Company’s global flagship initiative which aims to help 50 million children globally, lead healthier lives by 2030. 

“Through activities like the Nutrition Quiz, we make progress towards our goals of helping children live healthier lives by raising awareness of the benefits of healthy eating and active lifestyles. We want to see strong and healthier children who can make the right nutrition choices”, Victoria Uwadoka said while commending the children for their excellent performances. 

Speaking after emerging winner of the competition, Olugbuyi Ayomide from Wesley School 1 Sagamu said, “I feel so happy and excited winning this competition. I have gained a lot of knowledge from the N4HK program especially on personal hygiene and healthy nutrition. I will continue to tell my family and friends all I have learned”. 

Earlier, the Chairman of Ogun state chapter of Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Dr. Oluseye Onabanjo acknowledged the excellent performance of the children. He also commended Nestlé for the Nestle for Healthier Kids initiative which impacts nutrition education from an early age, describing the initiative as laudable. 

Launched in Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Health, Universal Basic Education Board, Ogun State, FCT Universal Basic Education Board and the Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Nestlé for Healthier Kids will reach 17,000 children in 30 schools, 20 of them in Ogun State and 10 in the Federal Capital Territory.
