Nestlé invests XAF 2.7 billion in new dairy production facility

Douala - Nestlé Cameroon today inaugurates a production unit for its range of Nido fortified powdered milk in the presence of the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development. This XAF 2.7 billion investment will create 12 additional jobs at its Douala-Bonabéri plant and has the potential to create 48 new jobs in the coming years.

The new production unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and adopts the highest quality and food safety standards. With an annual production capacity of more than 5,500 tons, the unit will henceforth manufacture Nido Forti Choco and will continue to package Nido powdered milk and. The production is intended for both the local and export markets of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) countries.

Launched in 2016 in Cameroon, Nido Forti Choco is made from milk powder, cocoa and sugar. Enriched with essential micronutrients such as iron, zinc, calcium and vitamins necessary for the optimal development of children, it helps to meet their daily nutritional needs. This is in line with Nestlé's ambition to enable individuals and families to live healthier and happier lives.

The Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Mr. Ernest Gwaboubou, declared: « This event demonstrates a strong public-private partnership within the context of industrialization of Cameroon, which will create employment and foster economic development”.

As evidenced by this investment, we believe in the socio-economic development of the country and we want to continue to be a key partner in the growth of the local agro-industry," said Thomas Caso, Country Manager of Nestlé Cameroon.

"We will continue to explore with our partners and the relevant authorities ways to increase our local production and local sourcing of raw materials and packaging materials," he added.

Nestlé has been present in Cameroon since 1965 and started local production in 1981. The company employs more than 450 people directly and is the main source of income for thousands of other families. The construction of this production plant is part of a XAF 10 billion investment announced in 2016. Since 2010, Nestlé has invested about XAF 20 billion in Cameroon.
