Milo President's Independence Day Award honours twenty young pupils

The annual Milo President’s Independence Day Award’s ceremony took place at the State House on 5 March 2015. 

 

The Award, organised in partnership with Ghana Education Service (GES), aims at encouraging students in their academic work and promoting participation in co-curricular activities. Every year, twenty winners are selected based on criteria such as performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination, participation in co-curricular activities, such as school club activities, sports and community service, as well as well exemplary conduct. 

During the ceremony, the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama stated, “Government has demonstrated a commitment to education by introducing policies and interventions to improve access, enhance equity and guarantee quality for children of school-going age, irrespective of gender, ethnic origin or geographical location ”.

Nestlé Ghana has been working with GES for the past two decades to boost academic excellence and sports development in the country. 

In a speech read on behalf of Nestlé Ghana’s Country Manager, Daniel Yapobi, Nestlé Central and West Africa’s Business Executive Manager for Beverages, said: “Our support to the Milo President’s Independence Day Awards is a testimony of our continuous commitment to education, youth and sports development in Ghana. We aim at helping develop the next generation of talents”. 

The Milo brand offered each of the twenty Award winners a Samsung tablet, a one-year supply of Nestlé products, a Crystal plaque and a Medal as well as GHC 600 in prize monies. 

In addition to the Milo President’s Independence Day Awards, the brand also sponsors a number of sport activities, including the Accra Milo Marathon, the U-13 soccer championship and the inter-school sports festivals.
