The Nestlé Creating Shared Value Prize

The Nestlé Creating Shared Value (CSV) Prize is awarded by the Nestlé CSV Council every two years. The competition helps social enterprises and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) scale up or replicate business-oriented initiatives that address challenges in nutrition, water or rural development. Supported through a new partnership with Ashoka, the 2018 Prize received a record number of applications.

About the Creating Shared Value Prize

We established the CSV Prize to reward social enterprises, commercial enterprises and non-profit entities that reflect the spirit of Creating Shared Value. We look for innovative projects, programmes or businesses that have already been tested either as a pilot study or at a small scale; that demonstrate positive social and environmental impact; and that need support to become commercially viable.

The Prize makes a significant difference to scale up or replicate business-oriented initiatives addressing challenges in nutrition, water or rural development. We invest financial and technical resources in the winning initiatives, to help them expand and achieve financial sustainability.

2018 Prize Winners

'Mumm' from Egypt and 'Fishers and Changemakers' from the Philippines are the joint winners of Nestlé’s 2018 Creating Shared Value Prize. The two social entrepreneurs have won CHF 150'000 each for their outstanding work in nutrition and rural development.

Nestlé CEO Mark Schneider presented the Prize to the winners at this year’s Creating Shared Value Forum in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia.

‘Mumm’ is an online platform and delivery service, offering healthy homemade food while empowering women in Egypt. In two years, the Cairo-based company has created more than 110 jobs and delivered over 7'000 meals.

'Fishers and Changemakers' supports fishing communities in Central Philippines who are committed to sustainable practices. So far, the organisation has helped 150 fishing families to process and market their products.

A runner-up Prize of CHF 40'000 was also awarded to ‘Inka Moss’ from Peru. The company is improving livelihoods by training residents, mainly women, to harvest the white moss grown only in the Peruvian Andes.

The organisations will use the Prize funds to help scale up their projects, making them viable business initiatives.

The CSV Prize – created seven years ago – supports innovative social enterprises, commercial enterprises, and non-profit entities, creating shared value in any country around the world. It aims to address challenges in nutrition, water or rural development, supporting Nestlé’s purpose of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future.

To deepen engagement with social entrepreneurs, this year, Nestlé has partnered with Ashoka, the world’s leading network of systems-changing social entrepreneurs.
