As our bodies do not have a large store of protein, like it has for carbohydrates and fats, we need to replenish our supply of proteins daily. The protein we eat is either used to build essential body proteins or transformed into energy. The recommended daily intake of 56grams of protein for men and 46grams for women may not seem like much, but it’s important to maintain enough protein in the body. If the protein used isn’t replaced the body eventually begins breaking down muscle tissue as a source of amino acids.
