Nestlé on Monday, February 18, 2012, inaugurated a N 5.42 bio (CHF 30.01 mio) ultra-modern Distribution Centre in Agbara, Nigeria, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the development of the West African nation.
The new Distribution Centre is key to Nestlé’s growth in Nigeria and will further strengthen the country’s role as the largest manufacturing operation for the company in the Central and West Africa Region.
Chief Olusegun Osunkeye (OON, OFR), Chairman, Nestlé Nigeria Plc, cut the tape to commission the new facility, assisted by Head of Region, Etienne Benet, and Dr Umar Bindir, Director-General of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP).
“By opening our new distribution facility in Ogun State, we will be closer to our consumers and can better adapt our products to their needs and preferences”, Etienne assured the Nigerian consumers.
Etienne reflected on Nestlé’s operations in Nigeria over the five decades, noting, in particular, the significant value the company has added to the host country through a number of initiatives such as the responsible procurement initiative that enables it to purchase raw materials locally, economically empowering its trading partners in the entire value chain.
As well, Nestlé is a major provider of employment opportunities directly and indirectly offerings jobs to hundreds while, at the same time, committed to offering high quality products that are designed to meet the nutrition, health and wellness needs of consumers.
Managing Director of Nestlé Nigeria, Martin Woolnough added: “The new state-of-the-art Distribution Centre reflects more than just an important investment to broaden our nutrition, health and wellness business platform. It illustrates also our commitment to the growth of Nigerian economy”.
Spread over an area of 4 hectares, the new 17,000-pallet warehouse is designed to manage the capacity increases following massive infrastructural upgrades at the Agbara Factory over the last five years.
