50 more teachers trained for the Nestlé Healthy Kids Global Programme in Accra

Nestlé Ghana is replicating the Healthy Kids Global Programme launched in November 2011. The latest beneficiary school is the University of Ghana Basic Schools in Accra. It has been chosen to be the model school for the programme which is already running in 10 schools in the Central and Western regions of the country, reaching more than 3000 students.

In collaboration with University of Ghana and the Ghana Education Service, Nestlé organized a ‘Training of Trainers’ workshop for 50 teachers of the model school. This takes the number of teachers trained so far to about 120. The workshop which was held at the Noguchi Memorial Institute from the 10th to the 11th of January 2013; was facilitated by trainers from the Nutrition and Food Science (NFS) Department of the University of Ghana and consultants from Strategic Kreation Services.

The teachers were trained on Nutrition education; how to use the Teachers’ Manual, the Children’s Reader and innovative ways in using food models, rhymes, poems and songs in the classroom setting to enhance the learning experience, make it fun, and also to promote the retention of knowledge in healthy eating exercising daily.

The training was in preparation towards the official inauguration of the Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme in the school slated for March 2013.
