The Pollution Solution

All forms of pollution: air, water and land, pose a threat that we need to face head-on. These are a few tips that we can employ to reclaim the air we breathe, the ground beneath our feet and the waters that refresh our souls.

-

Segregate hazardous household waste such as aerosol sprays, oil-based products, pesticides and weedicides. Dispose them off safely by contacting the waste management company that disposes of your waste and handing it over to them. Never pour these substances down a drain or onto the ground.

-

Reduce waste by reusing household items. Bottles and cans can be used to nurse plants and items such as old clothing items can be donated to people who would have more use for them and prevent them from ending up in a landfill somewhere.

-

Reduce waste by opting for reusable shopping bags and also plan to buy in bulk to avoid excess packaging that only ends up in the trash.

-

Driving Smarter. This will not only help the environment but will save you a substantial amount on your fuel. If possible, opt for carpooling or even favor walking for short distances.

-

Acting in community is always better. You can create or join a group to protect your living environment. This is the best place to develop and share your knowledge.

-

Use solar panels/streetlights when possible and favor low-consumption light bulbs. Similarly, optimize the use of electrical appliances at home.

-

Taking a break. Lessons learnt from the Covid 19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns saw air and water quality in many places improve. Waters that had not seen fish in many years were full of life again, and the lesson to be learnt here is for us to slow down and give nature a break. Go out less, tend to nature around you and just relax.
