How much protein you need depends on your age, sex and level of physical activity. Generally your need for protein decreases as you get older, although athletes particularly those who do high intensity sports need more protein than the average person. In West Africa most people get enough protein in their diets, however much of these proteins come from sources high in saturated fats and cholesterol. More healthy options would be lean meats and vegetables with high protein content.
